Key suspect in the Biranchi Das murder case, Chagala, surrendered to police in Bhopal on Tuesday.

Hours after the surrender, the police detained Saroj Sahu, another associate of Raja, from his house in Cuttak.

Prior to his surrender, Chagala gave a new twist to the murder in an interview, which was telecast live in an Oriya news channel. He rebutted the police version, which stated that three assailants came to the Judo Association Hall in Bhubaneswar on April 13. While one fired at Biranchi, another guarded the shooter. The third one waited on a motorbike to help them flee. Raja fired at Biranchi, while Chagala stood next to him. In the interview, Chagala said he did go to the Judo Association Hall to kill Biranchi, but Raja was not with him. He alleged that music video producer Jubuli Sundaray accompanied him and it was Sundaray who shot Biranchi. Chagala said, “Sundaray, Leslie Tripathy, an IAS officer and a few others conspired to kill Biranchi,” he added.
