The district collector has banned sale, purchase or transfer of land coming under the villages where the expansion of Birsi Airport is planned.
A notification to this effect was released by the District Collector Avinash Zade stopping all land transaction deeds in the four villages of Kamtha, Birsi, Zhilmilli and Paraswada under Section 12 of the Maharashtra Rehabilitation Act 1999.
The decision has fumed more than 200 farmers. According to them, some of them are still awaiting the compensation amount for their land acquired by the government a couple of years ago, to expand the airport.
According to the notification released by collector office on February 26, bearing No. 242/ 2010, stated that the administration seeks more land for expansion of Birsi Airport and hence the land dealings have been banned in the area of the four villages.
Notably, the airport expansion project of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) had been implemented for Gondia and hence Rehabilitation Act of 1999 was enforced in the four villages banning all sale, purchase and transfer deeds of lands by the Collector.
It may be recalled that over 400 acres of land of farmers already either been acquired or under the process of acquiring by AAI. And the farmers, so far, staged agitation over the compensation offered to them by the government for their cultivable land.
