The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s educational degrees are fake and have a number of discrepancies, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of betraying the nation.

Earlier in the day, BJP president Amit Shah and his party colleague Arun Jaitley released two degrees to prove Modi secured a bachelor of arts degree from Delhi University and masters of arts degree from Gujarat University, days after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned the PM’s qualification.

The two also slammed Kejriwal for ‘low level of public discourse’.

“In the mark sheet dated 1977, the name of the student is Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi. In the degree, issued in 1979, the name is Narendra Damoderdas Modi. This is not possible. If he changed his name, there should be an affidavit to show that. I changed my name so I know the procedure,” senior AAP leader Ashutosh said in response to the BJP’s assertion.

According to the documents released by AAP, the name of the student kept changing between 1975 and 1978.

In the mark sheets issued in 1975, 1976 and 1977 the name of the candidate is Narendra Kumar Damodardas Modi, Narendra Damoderdas Mody and Narendra Kumar Damodardas Mody, respectively.

In the mark sheet issued in 1978, the name is Narendra Damoderdas Modi.

The BA degree, purportedly issued by the Delhi University in 1979, says that Modi completed his graduation in 1978.

“Amit Shah is not God. Not everything he says is correct. We have done our due diligence and investigation. We have the PM’s school records of Class 11 and we are not questioning those at all,” Ashutosh said.

The AAP leader also said he filed an RTI with Delhi University and asked for the enrolment register, enrolment slips, convocation register and slips where the PM’s signatures must reflect if he was a student.

Later in the day, Ashutosh posted a tweet questioning how Modi took any exam in 1975 during the Emergency.

“Modi claimed that during emergency he was underground. Then how he appeared for BA exam ? If Modi appeared for BA exam then he should tell the centre where he wrote his exam ?” he tweeted.
