THOUGH senior BJP leaders repeatedly announced that the list of 250 to 300 party contestants for the coming Vidhan Sabha elections had been finalised, the party held a meeting of senior leaders today to ‘formally’ finalise the list.
The State BJP Office was abuzz with activity the whole day due to presence of ticket-seekers, who have come here from every nook and corner of the State.
The meeting was attended by senior party leaders, including Kalyan Singh, in-charge of UP affairs, Lalji Tandon, leader of the Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Keshri Nath Tripathi, State BJP president. National general secretary of the party Sanjay Joshi was also present at the day-long meeting as a central observer.
Two and three-name panels of the probable nominees for 150 of the 403 Vidhan Sabha constituencies were put before the meeting and it was decided, in principle, to repeat almost all the sitting MLAs, barring a few, who looked for ticket in other parties too or had won with a thin margin, sources said.
The final decision on the candidates of all the Vidhan Sabha seats of Lucknow will be taken by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is an MP from Lucknow.
