NCP supremo Sharad Pawar on Sunday thanked the people of Orissa for defeating the "communal force" in their state.
Addressing NCP's state convention here Pawar said "it is the people of Orissa who have thrown out the communal force for the interest of the nation."
Stating that Orissa had shown the way to the entire nation by rejecting the BJP, Pawar said that his party's seat adjustment with Naveen Patnaik's BJD was aimed to oust the saffron party from the power.
"The BJP has been isolated in the Lord Jagannath bhoomi. They (BJP) have been taught a lesson for trying to communalise politics in Orissa," Pawar said adding that his party had to make sacrifice by contesting in few seats due to seat adjustment with the BJD.
"I am not worried over only four NCP MLAs getting elected to the Orissa legislative assembly. It is important that NCP has opened its account in Orissa," he said.
Revealing that he had suggested Naveen Patnaik to drop BJP from the government, Pawar said that NCP and other like minded parties were happy over breaking of alliance between the BJD and the BJP.
"We all were expecting that Orissa will give a new direction to the national politics which had been achieved though the general elections. The BJP is isolated in Orissa," he said.
