Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday mocked Gujarat chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's model of development in his state during an election rally in Karnataka's Raichur.

The Congress vice-president said the Gujarat's model is only an exercise in marketing which promotes corruption and accused the party of selling lies to the people of the country.

He said the BJP's model in Gujarat will burst like the India Shining campaign.

He also slammed the BJP government in Karnataka saying it broke all records in corruption and named leaders like Janardhan Reddy, Ananth Singh and Suresh Babu who went to jail on charges of graft.

He accused the BJP of stalling the land acquisition bill for two years and said it was the UPA government which passed it.

Enumerating his government's achievement, he said the UPA has worked for the poor in the country.

"We want to upgrade the poor at least to the level of lower middle class. We want to give free medicines to all, a roof for all," said Gandhi.

He added in the next five years, 10 crore people will get employed in the manufacturing sector.

Gandhi alluded to the snooping scandal in Modi's state and said police in Gujarat is used to chasing women and tapping their phones and on the other hand the BJP puts up posters saying give strength to women.

"We will give you 2,000 women police stations and will open colleges and universities for women," he promised.
