In the run-up to the Karnataka assembly elections, scheduled for May, it is the Congress that is being closely watched by other parties.

The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) are awaiting the announcement of the Congress’s list of candidates because they are in confusion about announcing their lists. Several sitting MLAs from the BJP and JD(S) are trying to get the ticket from the Congress and they cannot be ignored because of their popularity.

Congress leaders including Karnataka unit chief G Parameshwara, Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, former Union minister SM Krishna and others are camping in Delhi and meetings on preparing the list are on. http://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2013/4/02_04_pg13a.jpg

Parameshwara told HT the list was being prepared and he would announce the names this week.

“The leaders will work to bring the party to power again in the state with a majority.”

The BJP’s state chief, Prahlad Joshi, told the media the party had prepared the list of candidates.

A senior BJP leader said the party was waiting for the list of the Congress so that it could work out its strategy on selecting the candidates. “We suspect a few of our MLAs who do not have an RSS background will contest polls on the Congress ticket. Once the Congress announces the list, we will list out our candidates,” he said.

The JD(S) is waiting for the list of the Congress as well as the BJP. The party has finalised the names for the old Mysore area constituencies, but is eager to field rebel Congress candidates in other parts of the state.
