NOTWITHSTANDING THE Congress’ admission that it erred in deciding on September 7 as the date to celebrate Vande Mataram centenary, the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to harp on the issue by launching a statewide Vande Mataram campaign in different phases.
Obviously, the party aims at highlighting its cultural identity associated with the national song Vande Mataram and national pride and also to project the Congress in a poor light.
From September 25, the day when the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be in the State to inaugurate Bansagar irrigation project, to October 2, the Gandhi birth anniversary, the party would organise ‘Vande Mataram rallies’ from the State to mandal level. The party workers would take out processions while carrying portraits of Bharat Mata, the BJP banner and national Tri-colour as well.
State BJP president Satyanarayan Jatia said in a statement that in the next phase of the campaign lecture series would be organised from November 7 to December 7. For this, suitable venues would be selected keeping in view the dignity of the song. The central and State leaders would take part in the lectures.
The third phase would be associated with offering homage to the martyrs. From December 26 to January 26, the Republic Day, senior leaders of the party would offer floral tributes to the martyrs at their memorials.
Jatia has asked all the district presidents of the party to chalk out their programmes and apprise him of the same so that the central and State BJP leaders could schedule their visits to attend the programmes.
