The BJP on Wednesday announced that its ministers in the Union government will give at least one day in a month to meet workers and people at the party headquarters here to listen to their problems and suggestions.

At a dinner that he hosted for the BJP ministers and other senior leaders, party president Rajnath Singh also suggested ministers take out some time from their schedule and work towards building the organisation.

“A minister will give at least a day every month at the party office. That means, at least one minister will be there at the party office every day. A similar concept — Sahyog — was conceptualised in the last days of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government,” information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters.

The party plans to put the system in place by July 15.

At the dinner, which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ministers were also advised to visit the party office and meet workers in parts of the country that they will visit as part of their ministerial work.

“This is a natural and welcome step because it increases dialogue between the government and workers,” Javadekar said.

Both Modi and Rajnath reminded ministers that they are in the government because of the organisation and in addition of the role that they will have to play in the government, that also have a duty towards the organisation.
