Bharatiya Janta Party

Predicting a bright future for the Bharatiya Janta Party in the poll results on Sunday, leader of opposition, Sushma Swaraj said that the party would win most of the seats in rural belts than the urban ones in the four concerned states.

Swaraj said this while addressing a rally in Sonepat town on Saturday, along with former national president Venkaiah Naidu to commemorate the first death anniversary of former MP from Haryana, Kishan Singh Sangwan.

She said that earlier there was an impression that the BJP was limited to the business community, but it was with the effort of leaders like Sangwan that the party’s message got across to the farmers.

She said that while Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat in the country was `1350, it was only BJP governed Madhya Pradesh which offered `150 bonus over the crop price to farmers. Similarly, it was only Chattisgarh government which gave `200 bonus on paddy crops to farmers.

Taking a dig on the state government, former Naidu said that the Congress government was offering `1310 MSP of paddy crop to farmers, while investment on the crop is `1560.

He added that the mismatch between the investment and MSP for crop was the primary reason that had pushed farmers to the brink of poverty.
