Ahmed Bukhari, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid, urged people to support the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has come out with a video depicting the party’s pro-Muslim image.

Support of Muslim voters is crucial in at least three parliamentary constituencies in Delhi, and the BJP has been holding several programmes in the past to woo the minority community. It had conducted several such programmes in the run up to the Assembly polls as well.

The minority cell of Delhi BJP has prepared the video showing parts of speeches by its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, where he talked about party’s development plans for the Muslims to bring home the point that BJP is not anti-Muslim.

The 11-minute-and-35-second long video shows Modi talking about his vision of India and how he believes in moving ahead with Hindus and Muslims together.

“The video is being played through the help of projectors at 17 corner meetings across the city especially in Chandni Chowk, Seelampur, Mayur Vihar, Kirari among others. The Congress and AAP have launched propaganda about BJP and Modiji being anti-Muslim and through this video we are trying to correct the misperception,” said Atif Rashid, president of minority cell of Delhi BJP.

The video starts with a scene depicting Muslims living in pathetic condition and then showcases speeches of Modi in Ahmedabad, Patna, Meerut and Jhansi and also shows Modi hugging a Muslim man.

“It is considered that Muslims are a traditional vote bank of the Congress but the situation has changed now. A number of Muslims, especially the youth, are coming towards the BJP as we are offering them the development model.

Our minority cell has been holding interactions and public meets to ensure more and more people come out and vote for our candidates,” said a senior BJP leader.

Some of the areas that have a sizeable number of Muslims include Okhla, Ballimaran, Krishna Nagar, Patparganj, Seelampur, Babarpur, Mustafabad, Seempauri, Matia Mahal, Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar, Badli, Gandhi Nagar and Kirari.
