The nationwide dawn to dusk strike called by the BJP against price rise affected normal life in Kerala with private buses, taxis and autorickshaws off the roads.

Shops also remained closed in urban areas.

No untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far, police said.

Essential services like hospitals have been exempted from the purview of the protest.

Meanwhile, a report from Kochi said only two-wheelers and some private vehicles were plying on the roads.

Public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) reported an attendance of 67 per cent, while more than 90 per cent staff reported for duty in the Bharat Petroleum Kochi Refinery, official sources said.
