Braving heavy rain and bad weather, hundreds of workers of the BJP on Wednesday held a rally at Gandhi Chowk in protest against the anti-BJP stance of the state government against party leaders and workers.
Raising anti-Congress slogans, they said the party would not sit silent and expose the misdeeds of the Congress in the public.
All senior district-level leaders, including party MLAs and former MLAs, were present in the rally to present a joint face of the party.
Addressing the rally, senior BJP leader and former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the Congress government had failed on all fronts during its seven-and-a-half months rule and was busy taking revenge against the BJP leaders.
Dhumal said it was most unfortunate that chief minister Virbhadra Singh and other Congress leaders were targeting MP Anurag Thakur on Pavilion Hotel issue.
He asked Singh to clarify what the Congress had done during its regime to promote cricket and other games in the state. He claimed that Anurag had brought the state on the world map of cricket. He said by constructing a hotel, HPCA had committed no crime and had taken the land on lease according to the government rules and bylaws.
The BJP leader said with the onset of the Lok Sabha elections and growing popularity of Anurag, the Congress was targeting him. He, however, said people of the state knew who were their real friends and well-wishers and vote only for them (BJP) in the next elections. He claimed that the party was strong in the state and would win all four seats with thumping margin with the help of people of the state.
Dhumal said while people of the state were feeling the pinch of rising prices and shortage of essential commodities, the state government was keeping a silence over the situation and it was highly shocking. He said people of the state were upset with this and would teach the Congress a lesson in the coming Lok Sabha elections for ignoring them on vital issues.
District BJP chief Vijay Agnihotri said the Congress leaders were afraid of Narendra Modi at the Centre and Anurag in the state and that was the reason that both were under the target of the Congress.
He gave a call to the party workers to be united and expose the evil designs of the Congress in the public through holding personal meetings with them.
Meanwhile, addressing a meeting at Haar village of the district during his “Jan jagran” campaign, Sunil Sharma (Bittu), general secretary of the HP Congress Committee, dubbed the Hamirpur rally of the BJP a big “tamasha”. He said the BJP led by its leader Prem Kumar Dhumal was once again holding meetings to fool the people on various issues.
Sharma claimed that the Congress was the party of people and it was doing a lot for their well-being and welfare. Their performance in the past seven-and-a-half months was creditable, he added.
