The friction between the BJP and Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar over the tabling of the JPC report on 2G scam escalated on Tuesday, with the party threatening to bring a no-confidence motion against Kumar.
On a day the two Houses of Parliament remained paralysed due to disruptions by the Opposition and Seemandhra MPs, the BJP alleged that Kumar did not allow former finance minister Yashwant Sinha to speak before the report was submitted.
Sinha had wished to speak on the on the changes made by JPC chairperson PC Chacko on the dissent notes to the report. The notes, the opposition had submitted, gave a clean chit to the prime minister and the finance minister.
On Tuesday, at a parliamentary party meeting, Sinha suggested that a no-confidence motion be moved against Kumar but it was decided that a final call would be taken after leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj returned from South Africa.
On its part, the Lok Sabha secretariat issued a statement, saying there is no rule “allowing any discussion or raising of objections” before the presentation of a report.
