BJP urges students to listen to SC on strike
The Opposition has counselled them to pay heed to the apex court's direction to call off their ongoing strike.
The Opposition BJP, which has been sympathetic to the agitating medicos, on Wednesday counselled them to pay heed to the Supreme Court's direction to call off their ongoing strike against the OBC quota.
"The Supreme Court has taken cognisance of the issue. There has been no question mark on the credibility of the Supreme Court so far. It would be good if they (students) appreciate it," party President Rajnath Singh said when asked whether the students should respond to the apex court's directions.
Asked about differences on the reservation issue within the BJP, Singh said, "The political resolution delineating our stand was unanimously approved. The open debate in our party only reflects the internal democracy. We want to strengthen it further".
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court directed the protesting medicos to call off their strike forthwith and assured them that the apex Court would look into their grievances.
Overruling pro-reservation voices in the party on the controversial quota issue, the BJP resolution had on Tuesday insisted on including the economically backward among the beneficiaries of reservation and keeping the creamy layer of the OBCs out of its purview.
