Over 100 BJP workers were detained today after they tried to disrupt rail traffic in South Gujarat as part of their agitation to demand more trains for the state.

The agitation was led by BJP MP from Navasri C R Patil.

The activists were picked up when they blocked the tracks at Surat, Navsari and Valsad railway stations obstructing traffic and delaying a goods train, an inter-city express and a couple of Mumbai-bound trains, police said.

Those taken into custody include Surat district BJP President Prunesh Modi, Navsari President Premchand Lalwani, Kanjibahi Patel and Thakore Patel from Valsad district.

The agitation was called off after a few hours. Patil said his message has been conveyed to the people and the Union government which had "ignored" the South Gujarat region.

He, however, threatened to launch a large-scale stir if people's demand for new trains, more stoppage for existing trains at various stations of South Gujarat and improving railway infrastructure in the region, among others demands are not met in the coming days.

Heavy police force was deployed at all railway station in South Gujarat in the view of the agitation call.
