Highlight Story

STATE GOVERNMENT employees and teachers observed black Diwali in protest against the non-payment of their dues before the festival. Now, they are trying to get their dues before Id.

Hundreds of the teachers working on a fixed honorarium at the degree and intermediate level did not get their salaries before Diwali on the pretext of accounting complexities. At the AND Degree College salary for September has not been paid.

Similarly, the zoo staff are also agitated as they could not get their Diwali bonus.

The Zoo director said he had submitted the bonus bill to the treasury but as the banks were closed over the weekend the cheque could not be encashed. He said that the bonus would be disbursed before Id.

Many senior officers of government departments told HT that the delay in disbursing bonus was the result of government delay in circulating the order. By the time the order was received holidays had almost begun.

This had delayed the clearing of the bill, they added.
