Minutes after the polling started in Baramulla district, militants set off an explosion in Sopore constituency but there was no report of loss of life or damage to property.
Militants exploded a hand grenade on Sopore-Sangrama road on Sunday morning but there was no report of loss of life or damage to property, official sources said.
Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Jain said a sound of explosion was heard but it was not of a hand grenade.
There was no loss of life in the blast, he said.
Meanwhile, a supporter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was killed in a clash with activists of their arch rival, National Conference (NC), in Anantnag district, official sources said on Sunday.
The deceased identified as Mohammad Yakoob Wagay received a blow on his head during the pre-poll clash at Dhamhal Hanjipora, the sources said.
Police have registered a case in this connection.
Wagay is the first victim of the pre-poll clash between the supporters of political parties.
Six constituencies of Anantnag district along with ten other assembly segments of Kulgam (four), Kishtwar (two), Doda (two) and Ramban (two) are scheduled to go to polls in the sixth phase on December 17.
