MAKING GOOD progress this year, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has collected additional revenue of about Rs 11 crore, as compared to last year’s revenue. During fiscal 2005-06, the BMC has collected an amount of about Rs 47.40 crore through its various local taxes.

This could be good news for the BMC bosses, who are struggling to arrange funds for various ambitious projects. Initially, the increase in revenue was reported in December last year. In the latter half, the BMC officials could only maintain this lead.

According to information, highest revenue was received from the wards of zone 8. This zone contributed the revenue worth Rs 7.88 crore. MP Nagar, which contributes highest revenue, falls in this zone. This is 73 percent of the demand fixed for this zone.

The areas of Arera Colony and Hoshangabad Road falling in zone 14 contributed second highest amount of Rs 4.76 crore. An amount of Rs 4 crore was collected from the areas under zone 10. The lowest contributor was zone 12, which included the areas of Karond and Bhanpur.

This zone contributed an amount of Rs 70.44 lakh. The zone 9 contributed an amount of Rs 3.70 crore. The government houses, which are not in the purview of property tax, are located in zone 9. During last financial year, the BMC had collected an amount of Rs 36.50 crore through local taxes.
