MEMBERS OF the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh today flayed the Central government for recent hike in prices of petroleum products at a meeting held under presidentship of RS Pandey.
Speaking on the occasion, Girish Chandra, former president of BMS, observed that the Central government’s plea that there was mounting deficit in the oil pool account could not be accepted by the public.
He pointed out that OPEC came into existence in the seventies to bring uniformity in the prices of petroleum products at the international level, but the Union government always hiked the prices beyond internationally fixed prices.
The Union government, just to make up budgetary deficit, withdrew Rs 5000 crore from oil pool account, which has never been returned. Union government was therefore, guilty of misappropriating the money, he alleged.
He said, “At present country required good economists and not bad politicians.
Our leaders therefore must behave like statesmen, who think about the next generation and not like politicians, who think only about the next elections.”
