Bobby Deol goes Boom Boom

Highlight Story

Ego often prevents actors from admitting their mistakes, but not Bobby Deol. He says, “I have been selective about my films, but maybe somewhere I was wrong,” when asked about his recent Bollywood report card.

Deol is currently shooting with Upen Patel, Kangana Ranaut and Celina Jaitley for Suneel Darshan’s Shakalaka Boom Boom. When we meet at a song shoot, Deol is clad in a red jacket over a black tee and blue jeans. He’s feeling hot under the collar but won’t remove the jacket “because I like it too much,” he says.

Shakalaka Boom Boom is his third film with Darshan with whom he shares a good rapport. “We do share a good rapport and Suneel is a good director,” he says, adding, “But that doesn’t mean that we take that rapport for granted. Each scene is given utmost attention and rehearsed before going for the take.”

Bobby Deol will be next seen in Suneel Darshan's Shakalaka Boom Boom.

Despite this being his first role with negative shades, Deol is “more excited than perturbed. Acting is about exploring roles, emotions, genres and playing a character with negative shades sometimes gives you that much more scope.”

Having been in the industry for a decade now, and considering he’s the seniormost actor in the film, do newcomers Patel and Ranaut look up to him? “I’ve never really thought about it,” he says, continuing,

“I’m friendly with all my co-stars and share a good camaraderie with them. Being senior or looked up to doesn’t mean that I’m guiding them or giving tips about the profession and industry. No one has the authority to give guidance or teach anything to anyone.”

The other two films Deol is also excited about these days is Yash Raj Films’

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom

with Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta directed by Shaad Ali and Anil Sharma’s

Apne

where he shares screen time with papa Dhar mendra and Sunny

bhaiyya

.

He only comments about the male-bonding with Bachchan saying, “Just because we haven’t worked together before doesn’t mean we don’t know each other well. We’ve been friends since childhood and get along very well, so that bonding naturally translates to screen.”

While he could be himself when working with Sunny

bhaiyya

, is he conscious while working with his father? “

Apne

is very special to me, primarily because I’m working with dad and

bhaiyya

. Not just dad, I would be conscious when any senior person is on the sets, out of respect. It’s only natural, isn’t it?” Deol also spared time for Sameer Karnik’s children’s film Nanhe Jaisalmer where he plays himself. “Children’s films should be encouraged,” he says on a final note.
