Body found at Girgaum Chowpatty not identified yet

india Updated: Jun 29, 2009 19:12 IST

The police are yet to identify the body that was washed ashore at Girgaum Chowpatty on Saturday.

The DB Marg police had received a call regarding the body being washed ashore. The body has been sent to JJ Hospital for post-mortem.

The police suspect it to be a case of drowning.

“There was no injury mark on the body and it did not seem to be a case of murder. It could be suicide though,” said N.R. Mali, senior inspector, DB Marg police station.

The police have sent the man’s photo and details to all police stations in the city.

“The man seemed to be in his thirties and is definitely not a local. It is possible that he must have been washed away from Goa or the Maharashtra border,” said Mali.

In March, the body of a 25-year-old foreigner was washed ashore at Juhu beach. The man’s limbs were tied and a 70-kg rock fastened to his waist. According to the police, the man was possibly murdered and then thrown into the sea. The body was highly decomposed.

The police had sent the body parts to the forensic laboratory. The report is yet to come.

The Santacruz police have failed to identify the body till now.

“We had sent his picture and details to every police station in the city and the neighbouring states. Till now nobody has come forward to identify the body,” said M. Choudhary, senior inspector, Santacruz police station.
