THIS YEAR the Lucknow Mahotsav edifice will look grand and real as special attention is being paid to the design and structure of the replicas.
A team of Bollywood art directors has been engaged to design and reproduce the replicas of the Sikandar Bagh gate and garden. Anand B Shinde and MQ Syed from Mumbai have specially flown down to Lucknow and are busy at the Mahotsava venue.
They are going to design the green patch (garden) that will also have a clock tower, the Sikandar Bagh Gate and the inaugural backdrop.
“The replicated structures will be in exact ratio and proportion of the original buildings and structures. We began work on November 13. We plan to wrap it up by Wednesday. About 100 workers have been engaged to help us in our work here.” Anand Shinde adds, “The green patch is going to be circular and the area will be approximately 120 ft by 120 ft.
It is going to have real trees in order to give it an environmental touch. This garden structure will also have a seating arrangement so that people can relax after shopping. The clock tower is going to be with a modern touch and have a Korean touch to it. It is going to be about 50 ft in height.”
The Sikandar Bagh Gate will be about 65 ft tall and is being made keeping in mind the real gate. The designers are keeping all the original designs right in front of them so that they don’t go wrong. The inaugural backdrop is also being made keeping in mind the theme of the Mahotsava ‘vikas bhi virasat bhi’.
This duo has been designing sets for films in Mumbai for about 40 years now. While the labourers are engaged with saw, hammers, nails, drills, et al, the designers are busy on their laptop and graph papers perfecting the designs.
