A bomb was found adjacent to a fair ground in Malda district of West Bengalon Saturday triggering panic in the congested area.
All the people, including the stall owners and organisers of the handicraft Expo, were evacuated from the area as bomb disposal squad personnel cordoned off the District Sports Association ground.
The bomb, lying next to the fair gate, was first detected by locals who in turn informed the police.
One person has been detained after some people claimed he was spotted as surreptitously dumping a round object next to a fair gate in the morning hours when the area was deserted.
Police were verifying reports that the man identified as Latu Seikh carried the object, later found to be a bomb, from his nearby house to the fair ground.
