An Indian Airlines flight with 153 people on board, going from Mumbai to Dubai, was on Wednesday diverted to a military air base after UAE aviation authorities received warning that two passengers were carrying a bomb, which turned out to be a hoax.
Mumbai-Dubai flight IA 683 was diverted to al-Minhad air base near the Dubai International Airport in Dubai after airport authorities in Mumbai were warned of the "threat" as the plane approached UAE airspace, officials said.
The warning was conveyed by Indian aviation authorities to their UAE counterparts after an anonymous caller telephoned the Mumbai office of the Indian Airlines saying two passengers in the flight were carrying a bomb, an IA spokesperson in New Delhi said.
A thorough search of the flight found nothing suspicious and the call proved to be a hoax.
The 153 passengers and crew were later taken to the Dubai International Airport for their entry procedures into the city.
