Women aren’t safe in the national capital region, and the gangrape of a 20-year-old BPO worker by nine men in Faridabad on Thursday night is just more proof of this.
The victim — who lives in Badarpur and works at a call centre in Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi — knew one of her assailants from a previous job at a shoe factory, the police said. That man, Inderjeet, rang her up around 8pm, telling her he’d fought with his girlfriend and calling her to Ballabgarh in Faridabad to intervene, since the women knew each other.
The victim took an auto to the area, close to National Highway-2, where Inderjeet was waiting in his Santro. She told the police she was surprised to see four other men in the car. Soon, five more men in two other cars joined them.
The men bundled her into one of the cars and took turns to rape her, she said. They then threw her into the bushes and the assault continued. They even forced her to drink alcohol before finally dumping her near a pedestrian bridge close to midnight. She called the police at 1.55am Friday from the spot, and was found there by a response team.
The police have registered a case of rape and arrested one accused, Barti, and seized his Nano while the others are on the run. They are now awaiting the results of medical tests of both the victim and accused.
“We are investigating all angles. The interrogation of the arrested accused will help us nab the others, said a police officer.
