In a bid to streamline traffic and reduce congestion around Galleria market and Super Mart 1, two of Gurgaon's busiest shopping complexes in DLF Phase-4, the city traffic police have decided to make the roads one-way from this Saturday.
The police department will also be putting up signboards to indicate directions to commuters.
Traffic movement on these roads comes to a standstill during peak hours especially during evening. Officials of the district administration and civic agencies have been mulling ideas for long to sort out the mess and reduce the woes of shoppers who get stuck for hours.
"We were trying to find a solution to this problem. However, after a study we have decided to make the busy roads one-way," said Bharti Arora, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
To reach Galleria market, vehicles coming from Iffco Chowk, MG Road or the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway can take a turn from the Pizza Hut outlet after the Iffco Chowk redlight.
If coming from Bristol Chowk, commuters have to come to the DLF Golf Course roundabout and take a turn towards Super Mart Road.
The road from Huda City Centre Metro station to Vyapar Kendra and Super Mart has been made one-way and entry for vehicles has been prohibited. Residents will have to travel an extra two kilometers with this road being closed.
With entry being closed from Zed Chowk, the new traffic diversion will result in long detours for people wishing to go to Radisson Suites or the Super Mart Road.
They will now have to go straight towards Iffco Chowk and take a right from Pizza Hut, then take another right and travel straight down the Ridge Valley School road.
In order to exit the market, commuters will have to go straight to reach the DLF Golf Course Road.
They can also take the road from DLF City Club to hit Super Mart Road and then take a compulsory right to reach the Huda City Centre Metro station.
