THANKS TO a brilliant century by Brajesh Tomar, the Madhya Pradesh BSNL cricket team registered its second win in the All-India BSNL cricket tournament being organised in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Playing against MTNL Delhi, the MP team was impressive in every department of the game. After winning the toss, the State team decided to bat first. Ranji player Brajesh Tomar gave a good start to the team. In his uneaten 145 runs he scored all round the wicket.
Satish supported him well by scoring 56 runs. However, Mohnish Mishra, who scored a fine 64 runs in the first match against Maharashtra, scored only 14 runs.
The team scored 240 runs for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Chasing the target, MTNL fell to the disciplined bowling of Suresh Chenani and Raghvendra. They claimed three and two wickets respectively. MTNL was all out for 160 runs. MP will play against Karnataka in their next match. In all, 24 teams from across the country are participating in the tournament.
Faheem to lead BU hockey team
FAHEEM WILL lead the Barkatullah University hockey team. The team will participate in the Inter-University Hockey Tournament to be organised at Lal Parade Ground from Wednesday.
The other team members include Akram Iqbal, Shahbaz, Imran Ali, Muzaffar, Ramiz Raja, Aiman, Inam, Naushad Mohammed, Shahbaz Ali, Zuber Ahmed, Chhabi, Mazhar Kamal, Manish and Surendra Thakur. Habib Hasan and Yogendra will be the coach of the team.
Bhopal to take on Kolkata today
BHOPAL AND Kolkata will clash for the title in the final of the All-India Inter-SAI Hockey Tournament to be played at SAI Centre, Bishenkheri on Wednesday.
In the first semifinal match, Kolkata overcame Gandhi Nagar by a margin of 2-0. Both goals came in the first half. The architect of this win was Sunil who scored in the 16th and 30th minutes.
The hosts, who had a splendid campaign in the league matches, exhibited the same aggressive skills. Playing against Bangalore, Bhopal lads demonstrated excellent stick work to win this fixture by a comfortable 7-2. Sports Authority of India Director General Ratan P Watal will be the chief guest on the final day.
Bhopal in semis
BHOPAL, BANGALORE, Haridwar and Trichi teams entered the semifinals of the All-India BHEL Inter-Unit Football Tournament being organised at Piplani Ground on Tuesday.
Bhopal and Bangalore have been given the direct entry into the semifinal, as they were the winners and runners-up of the 2005 tournament. Playing against Jhansi, Haridwar demonstrated an excellent game and scored a comfortable 6-0 victory.
Trichi tasted win against R C Puram. The good coordination between the players ensured the Trichi team winning the match 4-0.
Earlier, chief guest of the opening ceremony, BHEL G M Vijay Joshi, inaugurated the tournament. On the occasion, BHEL DGM Sports K M Bhasin and others were present.
