Brave the odds

It is, to be frank, a conscious effort that enables us to fall in tune with the changing circumstances. The most important factor to reckon with, in this case is ‘time’. Things get adjusted with the passage of time. That’s why they say that time is a great healer.

We are happy to see things through; when the going is good. But in trying times, our happiness just disappears.

It is here that a balance is required to be maintained. In the Holy Gita, Lord Krishna taught Arjuna the process of maintaining equilibrium (Stith Pragya) in all situations. Lord Krishna exhorted Arjuna to repose his entire faith in Him. Krishna wanted Arjuna to play his role without worrying for the result of his actions.

Everything that we see or do is being constantly monitored by the Lord. This truth has been explained differently in different scriptures. In Shriramcharitmanas, it has been said ‘howain whi jo Ram rachi rakha, kyon ker tarak bhawahain sakha’.(What God wants will happen; why should we argue for nothing.)

Whatever your views, the fact remains that there are times when things happen unexpectedly. It is here that we are required to exercise caution. It needs concerted efforts to maintain a mental balance capable of absorbing both good and bad.

Our inner censor (when we try to look within) does tell us that something unexpected is going to happen. This is where the difference lies between the people who succeed and those who give up. It is sheer “confidence” cultivated over a period of time that enables one to overcome situations.

So, it is best to adjust with the circumstances when they do not seem favourable and wait for good times. Just sing Shelley’s tunes, “if winter comes, can spring be far behind.”
