Darren Bravo struck an unbeaten 117 to guide the West Indies to 339-4 at lunch on Thursday as it struggles to avert defeat on the fourth day of the second test against India.
The West Indies, following-on after conceding India a huge 478-run first innings lead, was still 139 runs away from making the hosts bat again at the Eden Gardens with six wickets in hand.
Bravo, who has so far struck 13 fours and four sixes, added 108 for the fourth wicket with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (47) as the West Indies made steady progress after resuming the day at 195-3.
Marlon Samuels (31) was unbeaten with Bravo at the break.
India is looking for a series-clinching win after winning the first test in New Delhi by five wickets.
