Five undertrial prisoners were injured, one of them seriously, when inmates clashed over a cricket match in Shillong, jail officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a routine cricket match when a scuffle broke out among the players - all inmates on Thursday, that caused injuries to some of them," they said.
All the five injured were rushed to the Shillong Civil Hospital. One inmate, Amon Boro, was said to be in critical condition, they added.
The officials, however, termed the incident as an isolated one, adding a complaint has been lodged at Shillong Sadar police station and investigation was on.
"Measures are being taken to ensure that the incident did not cause further tension in the jail," they added.
The Shillong district jail houses 291 inmates, most of them undertrials, including 11 women.
