Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat on Wednesday ruled out post-poll alliance with Congress. "Congress talking about the post-poll alliance only showed they are getting jittery," she told reporters in Madurai on Wednesday.

Karat was replying to a question on AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi's remarks expressing confidence that the Left would back Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister after the general elecions.

On Sri Lankan Tamils issue, she alleged the Congress-led government at the Centre had utterly failed in its responsibility to protect Lankan Tamils. "Immediate and urgent action is needed to protect them. It is a huge humanitarian crisis," she added.

Referring to alleged distribution of money to voters in Madurai, where M K Azhagiri, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's son is contesting, Karat said the Election Commission had taken some steps including the transfer of the Police Commissioner.

The CPI(M) welcomed the action but it reiterated that the district collector also should be transferred for alleged violation of the model code of conduct.
