Foiling an infiltration bid, the BSF on Friday shot dead a Pakistani infiltrator along the Indo-Pak border in Kanachak border belt in Jammu, a BSF official said.
A BSF party on patrol at the Zeroline in Garur Border outpost near Alfa Machail border belt in Kanachak area of Jammu district, detected some movement near the border fencing, additional deputy inspector general (DIG), G-intelligence Branch, B Chowhan said.
The infiltrator started firing when the troops challenged them and they retaliated around 4.45 am, he said adding that heavy firing continued for over half an hour.
One infiltrator was killed in the gunfire, the DIG said.
This is third incident of infiltration along the Indo-Pak border in Kanachak belt in less than a fortnight.
During the previous one at Matkola border outpost along LoC in Akhnoor sector on January 16 night two BSF personnel were injured.
There was ceasefire violation by the Pakistani rangers during the infiltration bid and India had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan.
On January 14, BSF troops had beat back infiltrators in Alfa Machail border outpost in Akhnoor sector.
