BSP accuses Cong of vendetta politics

india Updated: Jul 22, 2009 21:31 IST

Accusing the Congress of indulging in vendetta politics, BSP on Wednesday alleged that UPA government was conspiring to withdraw NSG security cover provided to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

"The Congress led UPA government wants to get BSP supremo and UP Chief Minister Mayawati eliminated by withdrawing her NSG security cover," party's national general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra alleged.

Mishra had also petitioned President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Congress president Sonia Gandhi demanding that Mayawati's NSG cover should not be withdrawn.

The party general secretary on Wednesday in a statement alleged that Congress was wary of increasing political base of BSP, hence it was conspiring to withdraw NSG cover provided to Mayawati.

"If UPA government does not want to get Mayawati killed, then why it was taking such an unfortunate step," he asked.

"There is a serious threat to the life of BSP supremo from terrorist organisations, naxalites and criminals, a fact admitted by central agencies. During Lok Sabha elections even Union Home Minister Chidambaram requested her to remain cautious on security issue," Mishra said.
