The CB-CID on Thursday submitted chargesheet in the Banda rape case in court and named BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi as the main accused. A teenaged girl, Neelu (name changed), has accused the Naraini MLA and his men of rape. However, the MLA’s alleged accomplices — Suresh, Rajesh, Ravan and Garg — have not been booked for rape.
The 49-page CB-CID chargesheet, submitted in the court of the chief judicial magistrate in the afternoon, stated that the MLA had raped Neelu and the other accused had teased her and beaten her up. One of the accused in the case, Garg, is absconding.
Earlier in the day, a CB-CID team reached Shahbazpur village and took Neelu to identify the spots related to her alleged rape and confinement.
Neelu, accompanied by her brother and father, was taken to the house of the MLA at Attara town. She identified the room, in which she was allegedly raped.
Later, Neelu showed the CB-CID sleuths a drain in Tura village in which she hid after escaping from the MLA’s house. She told the CB-CID team that the MLA’s associates tracked her to the hut where she took shelter after her escape.
After the four-hour spot identification exercise, the CB-CID team took Neelu and her family members back to Shahbazpur.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, two advocates moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI probe into the rape case, Neelu’s subsequent arrest and incarceration on charges of theft allegedly in violation of Juvenile Justice Act. The Allahabad high court is to decide Neelu’s age.
The petition filed by advocates D Irudaya Nathan and Sanjay Gautam also demanded action against police officials who tried to threaten and influence Neelu and payment of an interim compensation to her pending the legal proceedings.
