Close on the heels of a controversy triggered over his father’s remark against Mayawati, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday called the BSP chief “buaji” (paternal aunt) even as her party moved the Election Commission demanding a ban on the SP chief.
“All those in BSP call her (Mayawati) ‘behenji’ irrespective of their age. But I call her “Buaji”, Yadav said while addressing an election rally here.
Akhilesh also made light of the Gujarat model of development and said there was an SP wave in the ongoing elections.
In a public meeting at Faizabad on Wednesday, SP chief Mulayam had said, “Ab ise srimati kahen ya kunwari beti, kya kahen behen kahen” (should I call Mayawati Mrs, unmarried daughter or sister.” Mayawati had retorted, “He (Mulayam) has lost his mental balance due to fear of defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.”
On Thursday, the BSP demanded the Election Commission to ban Mulayam from campaigning in Uttar Pradesh for his remark against Mayawati.
“Yadav’s remark could have triggered caste riots. He should be banned from campaigning,” BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra said in a letter to the EC.
