Three men, including a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) worker, were arrested for abducting and raping a 24-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, police said on Friday.

The victim, from Sarai Mardan village in Saharanpur, about 400 km from in Lucknow, was abducted by the three men on March 14 while she was returning from her college.

"She was then gang raped at a secluded place in the village," police inspector JS Atri told IANS on phone from Saharanpur.

The woman was rescued from a hideout along the Ambala Road early Thursday and the three men were arrested. A case has been registered.

"One of the three men named Rizwan is a party worker of BSP (the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh). According to the locals, Rizwan is the secretary of the district unit of BSP," Atri said.
