AFTER A gap of several years, convocation of the Barkatullah University is to be held in February 2007. This was decided at a meeting of the Heads of Departments convened by Vice-Chancellor Prof R S Sirohi on Tuesday.
A committee was constituted to chalk out the various details of the convocation. It includes Prof Gautam Gyanendra of Sociology Department, Dr Pradeep Shrivastava of Fisheries Department, Dr Anil Gupta of Computer Science and Prof A K Gwal of Physics Department.
The decision to constitute academic flying squads – that would conduct surprise check on affiliated colleges regularly to ensure quality of education and fulfillment of norms – at the earliest was also taken at the meeting. A committee to prepare the various norms for this purpose was also constituted. The committee includes Dr Neerja Sharma of the Adult Education and Extension Department and includes Dr Ashwani Bangnu of Limnology Department and Prof D C Gupta of Geology Department.
The committee would also have principals of two affiliated colleges. The academic flying squads are to be constituted at the instance of the Higher Education Minister and even the Vice-Chancellor and the heads of the departments would be included in the squads to ensure the seriousness of the activity.
The date of the next meeting of the academic council – that would approve the abovementioned decisions – was announced for December 11.
It was also decided during the meeting that the semester exams of I and III semester of the UTDs of the university would be completed by last week of November and similarly those of II and IV semesters would be completed by April end. Directives were given to complete the work of updating of syllabus for the PG course at the earliest as from the next academic session (2007-08), the PG exams would be held in semester system. Directives were also given expedite the work of Libnet – the networking of the various departments of the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sirohi emphasised the need of conducting UTD exams on schedule so that example could be set for affiliated colleges. He said that he would be visiting the various departments to interact with the students and faculty closely.
