PROTESTING AGAINST alleged irregularities in State Bank of India’s University branch, a large number of Barkatullah University employees staged a daylong demonstration in front of the branch on Thursday.
The Non-teaching Employees Association of BU alleged that the SBI branch, without following the norms, released payments from employees’ CPF account to some employees.
After the demonstration, the association handed over a memorandum to the branch manager. In press release, association general secretary Lakhan Singh Parmar said though the problem has been persisting since years, for the last 3-4 years, things have taken a serious turn.
He alleged that the university branch of the SBI, without having joint signatures of the registrar and employee, ‘illegally’ made payments to ‘a few’ employees against simple withdrawal forms.
According to the rule, to withdraw money from CPF account meant for the university employees, a signatures of the university registrar and the employee concerned both are needed.
Parmar alleged that there are cases, where the bank, instead of deducting loan amount taken by an employee from his salary account, did it from the CPF account.
The association also alleged that despite making several complaints with the bank, no action has yet been taken. A large number of agitated university employees comprising association members as well non-members demonstrated before the branch and raised slogans demanding redressal of the issue.
