When Amarin Sheikh (30) went to the Ulhasnagar court on Wednesday to get copies of the documents related to the dowry harassment case filed against her husband and in-laws, she was in for a rude shock.

The court told her that she had already withdrawn the case on Monday.

Amarin immediately informed the police, who, after investigation, arrested her sister-in-law Khusinuda Mansur Sheikh (31).

“The case was to be heard on May 10. Khusinada brought a burkha-clad woman to court and introduced her as her brother's wife, Amarin. Khusinada said she wanted to withdraw the case against the Sheikhs,” said Inspector Suresh Mohite, of the Central police station.

“As the woman too told in court that she was Amarin and wanted to withdraw the case against her husband and in-laws, the judge agreed and closed the case.”

The police arrested Khusinada based on the descriptions given by those in the court, including the lawyers and judge.

“We are looking for the woman who posed as Amarin in court,” said Mohite.

Amarin wanted the true copies of the dowry harassment case documents to file an alimony case against her husband, Julifikaar Sheikh, who works in Dubai.

In 2006, Amarin got married to Julifikaar.

But within a year of their marriage, Amarin alleged, her in-laws started harassing her to get dowry.

She returned to her parents’place at Karjat and filed a dowry harassment case against her husband, mother-in-law, two brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws at the Ambernath police station in October 2007.
