A bus carrying 25 students overturned on the Haji Malang road near Nevali village on the Badlapur-Kalyan-Dombivli route on Wednesday.
All students were residents of Bhaal village on the Kalyan-Badlapur road and studied in Abyudaya Vidyalaya in Dwarli, Kalyan.
Assistant Commissioner of Police from Ulhasnagar, Smita Pathak, said, “The Garda Company’s bus was passing through the Kalyan-Haji Malang road. The driver saw some schoolchildren waiting at the Dwarli bus stop and so offered them a lift. However, the bus slipped while taking turn on a muddy road and overturned.”
Fifteen students suffered minor injuries of which Nishant Mhatre, a Class 9 student and Pankaj Mhatre, a Class 5 student, suffered serious wounds on their head and hands.
Amit Chikankar, a local who witnessed the accident, said, “Due to narrow and slippery road the driver lost control of the vehicle.” “We immediately rushed to the spot to help the students,” he added.
“None of the students have been hospitalised,” Pathak said.
