IN YET another incident—the fourth, to be precise—of theft of diesel from the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses, miscreants drove away a UPSRTC bus and stole its diesel and two wheels before leaving the vehicle on the Lucknow-Barabanki Road.
According to reports, a UPSRTC bus (UP 32 AN 6114) of the Allahabad depot had returned from the Sangam city on Friday night. The driver parked the bus inside the Charbagh bus station and went to make entries at the counter. But when he returned, he found the bus missing. He informed his bosses but the bus could not be traced. It was only on Saturday morning that someone informed the UPSRCT staff about a bus standing deserted near Mahamudpur on the Lucknow-Barabanki Road.
On reaching the spot, the staff found that not only all the diesel (around 30 litres) had been siphoned out of the bus, two its wheels were also missing. The UPSRTC on Saturday lodged an FIR with the Naka police station in the case. It also suspended bus driver Omprakash Sharma and conductor Abid Ali for laxity.
Confirming the incident, Charbagh, assistant regional manager Parvez Wasir said he had demanded deployment of additional staff for guard at the bus-station.
Significantly, it is the fourth such incident in less than three months time in the State Capital. Earlier, miscreants drove away four buses—two from Charbagh and two from the Kaiserbagh bus station—in the last three months and ran away deserting buses after squeezing diesel out of them. Interestingly, every time the stolen bus is discovered at the Lucknow-Barabanki Road but the police are yet to nab the miscreants.
