President George W Bush will nominate Air Force General Michael Hayden to run the Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley said on Monday.

"General Hayden is the president's nominee," to replace Porter Goss, who resigned abruptly as CIA director Friday, Hadley said in an interview to CNN television.

"The issue is whether he is the best person to do this job and the president strongly believes he is," Hadley said on ABC, in response to criticisms from legislators on whether a military general is suitable to lead the embattled civilian agency.
