A Gurgaon cabbie was shot at in Sushant Tower on Monday, the daytime firing pointing at the clout the parking mafia enjoys in the area.
Police talked of a scuffle between cabbie Sachin Khatana and Kala, the accused. Khatana was admitted to a nearby private hospital and is said to be critical.
The police blamed the bad blood between two groups over a contract for parking management in the area for the incident.
“We need to see whether the parking is legal,” said the police. An attempt to murder charge has been slapped on Kala and three others.
The police said either group wanted to take control over parking in the area. The groups belong to Jharsa and Ghata villages.
According to the police, Khatana was with fellow drivers at the time of the attack. Kala and his associates had arrived in an SUV.
“My brother was sitting with his driver friends when four people opened fire. One of the bullets hit my brother. His friends managed to escape but my brother was not as lucky,” Sanjay, the injured’s brother, said.
Kala and his associates fled before the police could reach the spot. Khatana was taken to a nearby private hospital where he was operated upon and later kept in the intensive care unit.
None of the accused have been arrested. “Khatana is not in a condition to give us a statement. He is recovering in the hospital’s ICU,” said a police officer. The police have lodged an FIR and are investigating the matter, said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (East), Gurgaon police.
