Cabinet panel clears a dozen secretary-level appointments

The cabinet committee on appointments cleared a dozen other secretary-level appointments.

The government on Tuesday appointed environment secretary Ashok Lavasa as the new expenditure secretary in finance ministry. He will replace Ratan P Watal who retires on April 30.

There are five secretary-level posts in the finance ministry and the senior-most bureaucrat is designated the finance secretary. After Watal’s superannuation, economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das is likely to take his place.

The cabinet committee on appointments cleared a dozen other secretary-level appointments.

Ajay Narayan Jha, special secretary in the department of expenditure, will be the new environment secretary. Ajay Mittal will be the information and broadcasting secretary.

Snehlata Shrivastava will be the new secretary in the department of justice.

Hem Kumar Pande, who was recently appointed in the home affairs ministry as secretary of department of official languages, will be new secretary in the consumer affairs ministry.

Anup Kumar Srivastava and Susheel Kumar were appointed Secretaries in the department of official languages and border management (home ministry), respectively.
