COMMUNAL TENSION flared up in Gautampura this evening after the head of a calf was found near Saraswati Shishu Mandir. Two shops and a motorcycle belonging to members of a particular community were set on fire. Additional police force, including a STF company has been rushed to the spot, apart from an additional SP and two SDOPs who are camping there. The situation though tense was under control at around 9 pm.
According to information, the trouble started at around 4.30 pm when the calf head was discovered and members of a particular community gheraoed the police station. They claimed that they knew who the perpetrators were and named five persons of a particular community.
They also said that these five persons were anti-socials and they had asked the police to take action against them but the police did not hear their plea. Those who gehraoed the police station were demanding immediate arrest of those named by them.
Even as senior officers were talking with them, a mob suddenly started pelting stones and set on fire two shops and a motorcycle – all belonging to members of a particular community.
SP Anshuman Yadav said police have brought the situation under control. Policemen were deployed at all the sensitive spots to prevent further flare up, he added. Additional SP (rural) Manish Kapooria who is camping there said no arrests have been made so far, but they are trying to identify the perpetrators.
