Calling the police after a tiff with her husband proved costly for Kanu Sharma on Thursday morning.

Sharma, alleged that some police officials beat her husband Amit Sharma black and blue after he refused to pay a bribe of Rs. 3,000 to them. The couple lives in D block of Gamma-1 in Greater Noida.

Amit said that his wife called the police after a dispute. But they resolved the matter before the police reached their residence. He alleged that the cops started beating him and then arrested him after he refused to pay the bribe.

“I had a dispute with my wife Kanu on Thursday. Kanu dialled 100 and called the cops. Before the police reached our home I resolved the matter with her and convinced her not to make any complaints. When the police came, they asked me to pay Rs. 3,000 as they took pain to visit the place,” said Amit, who deals in a car business.

“My wife told them she was ready to give it in writing that she had no problem with me. But angry over not getting anything, a police officer started abusing me. Then he, along with his colleagues, thrashed me,” he said

The police later arrested Amit and took him to Kasna police station.

Kanu has said that PCR number 62 visited her house and there were three police officers in the vehicle.

However, the police have denied the allegations and said they arrested Amit for attacking police officers on duty. “We have arrested him as he attacked policemen on duty. No one from the police department beat him,” said Ashok Kumar, superintendent of police (rural).
