With the imposition of prohibitory orders in four police station areas of Ujjain, Begumbagh and areas nearby remained peaceful on Sunday.

The district administration imposed Section 144 in four police station areas namely, Mahakal, Kharakua, Jiwajiganj and Kotwali after Begumbagh area witnessed tension on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, some miscreants spread rumour that a petrol bomb had been hurled at the religious place of minority community. After the rumour spread, a large number of agitated citizens pelted stones on the police force that had reached the spot.

Police have detained more than 60 people, who were involved in rioting, from different parts of the town. In all, 51 of them have been sent to jail. They have been booked under sections 147, 148, 149, 336, 332, 333 and 307 of IPC.

During a search operation, the police recovered a huge cache of sharp-edged weapons, lathis and other weapons.

The Rapid Action Force (RAF) also conducted a search operation in Begumbagh area. RAF team members said one of the residents complained that they had brought 5,000 bricks for construction work at their house. However, after Friday's stone pelting incident, only 50 bricks were left, which means rioters hurled about 4,950 bricks along with stones and pieces of slabs on the police force during the riot that lasted for nearly four hours.

District collector Kavindra Kiyawat and shahar qazi Khali Khurram were injured in the attack.
