Trying out new clothes in a store’s trial room isn’t always fun. Shabnam Khan (named changed) found it out the hard way when she discovered a CCTV camera inside the trial room of lingerie store at Turab Nagar in Ghaziabad on Wednesday evening. Turab Nagar is a famous market in Ghaziabad for women’s clothes.
Police seized the camera and the recording instruments at the store and arrested its owner Harender Gandhi.
“After the girl tried her clothes, she realised there was a CCTV camera inside. She immediately complained to the showroom owner Harender Gandhi, who reportedly refused to hear her,” a police spokesperson told Hindustan Times.
“She then called the police.” The woman is a resident of Rajendra Nagar in Sahibabad. She had asked the salesgirl of store who reportedly allowed her to use the trial room.
Store owner Gandhi denied the allegations. “The allegations are baseless. I have been running this business for years now. There were three salesgirls attending to the customers,” Harender Gandhi told HT at the Ghanta Ghar police station after he was detained for interrogation Wednesday night.
“This girl had some conversation with the salesgirl at the counter who may have told her to go to the changing room,” he said. “I was not there when all this was going on.”
The salesgirl at the showroom who attended to the girl at the counter alleged she had warned the customer about the CCTV camera before she tried her clothes.
“I told her that there was a CCTV camera inside but she did not object and went ahead,” alleged Swati Kumar, the salesgirl. On Thursday, the police arrested the owner who was earlier detained for interrogation.
A case was registered under sections 294 (obscene act), 509 (insult to modesty of women) of the Indian Penal Code.
“We have seized the equipment and sent the owner to jail,” said SP (City) Rahul Yadvendu. “Investigations are on in the case and proper care will be taken while dealing with the sensitive matter.”
