THE SPORTS and Youth Welfare Department will organise the second edition of the camp in Bhopal from January 15 to select players for the National Games. This was decided in a meeting organised in the City on Thursday.
In June 2006, the department had organised the State Olympics in association with Madhya Pradesh Olympic Association (MPOA) to select players for the National Games to be organised in Guwahati, Assam from the first week of February.
According to director sports Sanjay Chaudhary, it was decided that the camp for all games would be organised in Bhopal except for equestrian and shooting events.
“Equestrian and shooting will be organised in Indore, as it has better infrastructure,” Chaudhary explained. About the preparations he said, “We have a good number of athletes in the selected squad. We hope to win a quite a few medals”.
About players like Rajkumari Dodiya and Jitendra Patel, who won medals in prestigious international meets, being included in the team, Chaudhary said,
“Though they were not in the State Olympics, their performance is enough to include them in the squad.” He said MPOA agreed with this decision.
Later, a meeting of the MPOA will be organised in Jabalpur in which the preparations for the coming National Olympics will be finalised.
MPOA president Mahesh Joshi, vice president Dr Shafquat Mohammad Khan, MPAAA secretary Mumtaz Khan, MPAAA president N S Parmar and others were present.
